The present age is dominated by an “it’s all about me” attitude. In our country, people – especially the young – are increasingly susceptible to depression, peer pressure, unhealthy competition, and a poor self-image.
Fed harmful messages by the media in the form of crime shows, reality television and popular entertainment persons, many people succumb to negative influences that ultimately damage their lives.
There is only one act that is important in light of the above: prayer for the people of our country.
We are instructed to “be unceasing in prayer [praying perseveringly]”1. When we pray together, God’s wonderful plans for us are put into action. Christ says to His disciples:
“Take this most seriously: … When two of you get together on anything at all on earth and make a prayer of it, my Father in heaven goes into action. And when two or three of you are together because of me, you can be sure that I'll be there.”2
In these trying times, focus on praying for people whose hearts are crying out to be led by God; whose actions need to shaped by God’s Will for them.
In this land teeming with need, pray for the peace and counsel of God’s Holy Spirit to spread through the nation: into every house, in every Church, in every family, to each individual, and into every heart.
Let’s make it our responsibility to pray for everyone around us to experience life the way God intended for them: “…in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).”3
