Prey Veng is one of the provinces of Cambodia. Translated from Khmer, the name means Grand Forest. But today most of the forest has been converted into farm lands. As a result this place is now particularly known for its agriculture with farming as the main occupation.
The main township is also called Prey Veng and is home to 12 year old Kolab.* This little one lives with her parents and her ten siblings. Both her parents are farmers and they have their own farmland which provides the livelihood for this family of thirteen people. Affording healthy food for each child is in itself is an impossible task and the outcome was inevitable. An average 12 year old girl who should weigh somewhere between 25-30 kilos was a mere 12 kilos.
Thanks to the feeding program run by Joyce Meyer Ministries, Hand of Hope today Kolab weighs 20 kilos – a massive improvement to her health. The good news doesn’t just end with Kolab though. Each of her brothers and sisters are also regulars at the feeding program where they receive good healthy food and are also taught in regards to their school work. What used to be a ‘dream meal’ is now a tangible reality.
Kolab is touched by the help and care given so freely by the Hand of Hope Feeding Center that she has made it her quiet ambition to one day become a teacher just like them.
