Down… but Not Out
Aadi* was five years old when his father died. His sister had to quit school and the whole family suddenly became dependent on their mother Ramana* who until now was a housewife. She found a job as a daily wage laborer but without Aadi’s father they struggled and lived below the poverty line.
The two children wore torn clothes and couldn’t go to school anymore but the most painful condition of all was their hunger. Ramana would look on in helpless desperation and did the best she could but it wasn’t enough to feed and educate her children.
The two children were brought to the Hand of Hope Feeding Center – where they eat a nutritious meal every afternoon. It has made them healthier, more active and ready to study. The feeding center’s tuition program enables the children to study a wide range of subjects and they also enjoy play-time with games like chess, carrom, and other educational activities.
Ramana is grateful to Hand of Hope for giving her children the chance to eat healthy food and have an education. Even though her husband’s death left her with no means to care for her children, God provided through Hand of Hope’s Feeding Centers.
