For a long time, ten year old Sam* lived with his grandparents in another part of Cambodia while his mother and father worked in Phnom Penh city. His parents struggled to make ends meet and despite their hard work, they lived in poverty.
But life with his grandparents proved no less hard. Sam, a 3rd grade student in a local school, had no food to eat and financial difficulty forced him to abandon his studies. This saddened Sam who loved school but he knew his grandparents were doing their best. After thinking things over, Sam returned to Phnom Penh to live with his parents.
Sam spent his time in the village with his young friends. With a heavy heart, his parents could see that their son longed for his classroom. His father toiled long hours on a construction site while his mother labored in a garment factory, to provide their son with good food and an education but they still needed someone to help them. And in this, they had hope.
One day, Sam's friends took him by the hand and ran toward a big red parked bus that said Joyce Meyer Ministries World Missions on the front. They told him in excitement that it was just the place for him. He followed them aboard the bus where he saw children eating platefuls of nutritious food. Sam was invited to sit down and share in the meal too, which he thoroughly enjoyed.
When all the children finished eating, Sam almost leapt for joy when workbooks filled with interesting lessons were handed out and a teacher took her place at the head of the bus, ready to instruct the children on their lesson for the day. Lessons continued with educational cartoons and interactive play time with the other children.
This is now Sam's schedule for the day. He is now a well nourished young boy and has made new friends, is studying English and is assured of a good future, thanks to Hand of Hope. A newly energetic Sam now looks forward to meal time and study hour on the Mobile Feeding Center, every day!
