A Demonstration of Hope

Heavy rains lashed the district of Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh in October this year. The normally dry, arid and dusty district had never experienced a flood of such measure in 104 years. The lanes, by lanes, streets and houses in the low lying areas were totally submerged under water for two long days.

Many villages located on the banks of the rivers Krishna and Thungabhadhra were completely submerged; the local farmers lost their cattle, houses and stored grain. The difference between the rich and poor was eliminated by the fact that everyone has to start building their lives from scratch.

The district never expected nor was it prepared to manage a disaster of such magnitude. The aftermath of the tragedy, after the waters resided, the entire city was under a thick pile of debris. Collapsed walls, carcasses, decay and stench added to the woes of the already suffering survivors.   

Two hundred and fifty kilo meters from Kurnool, Joyce Meyer Ministries Asia responded to the plight of the survivors by sending in a relief team. Members of the Pearl City church along with Mr. Kennedy from the Joyce Meyer Ministries’ office left for Kurnool on the 8th of October. Their vehicle was followed by a truck load of relief items that consisted kits of five kilo grams of rice, utensils for cooking, blankets and biscuit packets.

Upon arrival, the team was received by Dr. Sandeep, a local pastor with a small but growing church. He organized a relief camp for the flood affected in that area. Relief packages were given away after Mr. Kennedy and Pastor Anand encouraged the displaced survivors.

After the relief event the team traveled to the villages in the Nandyal region on the banks of the Thungabhadhra and organized a relief camp with the help of the local C.S.I (church of south India) denomination.

The local church leaders and the villagers thanked Joyce Meyer Ministries for the act of kindness and the love demonstrated in their point of need.
