Children's Homes

Children's Homes

In the Thai farming village of Hoiyasai, eleven year old Beth* sits in her room reading her favorite books. Beth remembers a time in her time when life wasn’t so secure. At the age of two she was abandoned by her parents. Her neighbors, pitying the child, took her in and cared for her along with their own three children.

Beth’s uncle and aunty, as she called them, tried their best to provide for her but in poverty, they struggled to make ends meet. As Beth grew older she was startled to learn that her parents left her years ago, unwanted and alone. Added to that, the taunts Beth received for not having parents made her retreat into herself, and she found it hard to speak, laugh or even feel happiness.

One day in the local market, Beth’s aunt heard the other villagers talking about a home for abandoned and orphaned children. Together with her husband, they decided find out whether Beth would be happier there. When Beth herself visited the Hand of Hope Children’s Home, she found other children who had lived in loneliness for many years without a family. She turned to her uncle and aunt and told them she thought the home was the place for her to be.

Now at the Hand of Hope Children’s Home for three years, Beth laughs with her friends, loves to draw and has discovered she possesses a talent for solving math problems. Touched by the care she receives, she has decided to be a teacher when she finishes studying. While Beth feels immense gratitude for the love and care her neighbors gave her, she is happy to finally live in a place where she can relate to others, study well, and can grow in the knowledge that her life has worth.

Hand of Hope helps children all around the world find good homes to live in - only because you enable us. If you would like to help other children like Beth find a good home to live in, please consider partnering with us.
