Picking Up the Broken Pieces through Love
Even though prostitution is illegal in India, Mumbai has a large population of sex workers. Estimated to number more than 100,000 workers, there are roughly 35 red light areas all over Mumbai. Bhandup, a shanty suburban locality is a notorious hub of this sleazy flesh trade.
Ensnared in the tentacles of this flesh trade ever since she was 11, Supriya’s (Name Changed) life was cheap but food expensive! Intricacies of the brothel lifestyle left her with mental trauma and depression. Fifteen years into the profession, after her son was born, Supriya wanted out, but, was left with no choice! She lacked formal education and had no skills that would substantiate a change in profession.
At a time like this, the Joyce Meyer Ministries’ Prem Kiran Transformation Center has given Supriya and her son a platform of hope to press toward a life of serenity and tranquility.
Currently, Supriya is a resident mother for 30 girls at the Prem Kiran transformation center and her son attends an English medium school that is fully funded by the center.
When translated into Hindi, Prem Kiran means rays of love! This is exactly what the center is doing in the red light districts of Mumbai. Thank you dear friends and partners for your incredible support in raising the standard of people like Supriya. You are a blessing!
